Google Ads or Meta Ads? Assessing budget, lead quality and results
Plan advertising costs, agency work and lead handling together. A labelled calculation shows why cheap leads alone do not make a campaign economical.
Plan advertising budget, agency work and lead handling together. A campaign can be meaningfully assessed only when recorded contacts lead to traceable business outcomes.
For businesses starting advertising or wanting to assess existing campaigns better. All amounts and rates in the example are freely chosen model assumptions, neither Bissolux prices nor market forecasts.

1. Start with the customer's situation
The choice between Google Ads and Meta Ads cannot be answered simply by a supposedly cheaper click. What matters is the situation in which your offering becomes understandable. In a search campaign, someone may already be looking for a specific solution. In a social feed, the advertisement may first need to explain why the subject is relevant. These different starting points influence the copy, creative and next step.
Describe a typical customer situation in one sentence. For example: a business needs a new website because its existing service pages no longer match what it offers. Or: a homeowner is planning a renovation but does not yet know the options. These call for different content. Choose a channel because it fits a reasoned hypothesis, then test that hypothesis.
Existing resources count too. A search campaign needs an understandable answer to the search. An image-led campaign needs usable material and a clear message. If both foundations are missing, improve the offering first. Advertising can bring visitors to a page, but cannot supply its missing information by itself.
2. Plan three types of cost separately
| Cost type | Examples | Clarify before launch |
|---|---|---|
| Media budget | Spending in the advertising account | Budget range, billing and approval of changes |
| Agency and production | Setup, management, copy, images and landing page | One-off and ongoing scope, usage rights and duration |
| Internal handling | Callbacks, consultations, quotes and follow-up | Owners, capacity and documentation |
Compare quotes with the same scope. A low monthly management fee means little if advertising material, the landing page or necessary setup is charged separately. Conversely, extensive production is not automatically sensible while the basic offering idea remains untested. Ask for a clear breakdown and a description of what will actually be delivered in the first phase.
Compare net amounts with net amounts over identical periods. For a planning calculation, one-off work can be spread over an explicitly named period. It does not thereby disappear from the actual initial payment. Cash-flow planning and economic comparison are two different perspectives.
3. Why a cheaper contact can end up costing more
| Metric | Variant A | Variant B |
|---|---|---|
| Recorded contacts | 30 | 45 |
| Of these, relevant to the business | 16 | 9 |
| Orders won | 4 | 2 |
| Media cost per contact | €30 | €20 |
| Total cost per relevant contact | €112.50 | €200 |
| Total cost per order won | €450 | €900 |
Each calculation divides the costs being considered by the appropriate count. Variant B generates more contacts at a lower media cost per contact. Yet an order won costs twice as much in this model. Neither variant is automatically profitable or unprofitable: actual contribution margin, internal effort and any recurring revenue are still missing. An advertising dashboard alone does not answer these questions.
Also check whether the orders really come from the same period and contact cohort. If several weeks pass between enquiry and close, the newest campaign initially looks weaker. Analysis by contact month can help assign later wins correctly. With small volumes, a single order changes the result substantially; that uncertainty belongs in the decision.
4. Define a result before launching
A click on a phone number, a submitted form and an actual consultation are different events. Name them accordingly. If all actions are added together as equally valuable successes, a campaign quickly looks better than the real demand. Clear documentation separates interest, contact and a commercially qualified enquiry.
Google Ads allows defined customer actions to be recorded as conversions. The technical setup must match the selected goals, taking required consent and notices into account. Check recording through an agreed test process before using the metrics to decide a budget. Google Ads: conversion measurement ↗
Do not transfer contact-form contents into ordinary analytics events. To assess successful submission, the event itself is initially enough. Further data linking requires separate technical and legal clarification. At the same time, limited measurability and missing consent should not be concealed with invented precision. Document which data is available and where gaps remain.
5. Establish a simple feedback route from sales
Not every campaign launch needs a comprehensive CRM rollout. The minimum question is: was this contact relevant, and what happened next? Define a few unambiguous states and decide who maintains them. Suitable categories might be new, reached, relevant, quote sent and completed. A short, reasoned rejection such as ‘outside the service area’ is more useful than a blanket judgement of ‘bad lead’.
- Who takes responsibility for incoming contacts, and who covers for them?
- How does the team recognise a relevant enquiry?
- Which missing information is requested during the conversation?
- When is the handling status updated?
- Which findings should feed into the next campaign review?
Consider the contact route too. A form with too little information may generate many unclear contacts. Too many required fields may cause suitable prospects to abandon it. Adjust questions using concrete feedback, then check whether quality and ease of completion improve. The purpose of a form field should be understandable to both team and prospect.
6. Bound tests so there is something to learn
If audience, offer, image, copy and landing page all change at once, a change in performance is difficult to interpret. Before a test, state what you want to learn. For example: do prospects understand the offer better when the advertisement explains a specific process? Or: do fewer unsuitable enquiries arrive when the service area appears earlier on the landing page?
The review period depends on budget, contact volume and decision time. One good day is not a reliable basis for a substantial increase. Define when results will be reviewed together and who approves spending changes. If too few relevant contacts arrive for a meaningful assessment, that is information about the test's scope, not proof of a universally bad channel.
7. Prepare the next budget decision
A good campaign review ends with a concrete decision: maintain, change selectively, expand or pause. It includes available data, known measurement gaps and feedback on contact quality. Show media spending alongside the total costs considered. Record which work is included in the next phase and which additional production requires separate approval.
Above all, your company should understand its access and billing. Advertising accounts, pages and relevant materials are maintained for the company; agency access is governed accordingly. This makes collaboration and a later handover easier. Understanding which data and services are available enables a decision about the next step without relying on a single success metric.
